Excerpt from Memorial Edition of Collected Works of W. J. Fox, Vol. 1: Lectures, Sermons, Etc;, Prior to 1824 Shortly after the decease of William Johnson Fox, which took place on Friday, June 3, 1864, a Committee was assembled to consider the best form of a Memorial of his invaluable services to social and political progress, and especially to that freedom of inquiry in religion which he ever regarded as a duty inseparable from the right of private judgment. The Committee unanimously resolved to publish a Memorial Edition of Mr. Fox's Works, exhibiting the various phases of his mind in reference to theology, politics, education, literature, and criticism. The Memorial Edition, in twelve volumes, of which the first volume is now issued, will be found to contain (with the exception of the four volumes of Lectures to the Working Classes): 1. Nearly all the Discourses published during the life of Mr. Fox; 2. Numerous Lectures, supplementary to those on Religious Ideas, and on other subjects, left in the state of Ms. Reports, and placed at the disposal of the Committee by Mr. Fox's daughter, Mrs. Bridell; 3. The Anti-Corn-Law Speeches, and the Letters of a Norwich Weaver-Boy, both now first collected; 4. Articles on Dramatic and Literary Criticism, and Selections from other contributions to periodical literature.
